What is grief and loss?

Unfortunately, being human means that we are likely to experience loss at some point in our life. Grief can be described an intense emotional pain you might feel after a loss of someone or something (such as a pet, a job, a relationship) that was important to you. Grief can look different for everyone, but some accompanying emotions might include sadness, anxiety, confusion, anger, guilt or resentment.

Grief doesn’t follow a schedule and it might come in waves, sometimes strong, sometimes quiet. Some days you might feel okay, and then the next day it hits you again without warning. You might feel sad, angry, confused, numb, or all of these emotions at once. Grief is your heart’s way of saying, “this mattered to me.” Loss happens when something or someone important to you is no longer there. The absence leaves an empty space where that person, thing, or routine used to be. Loss is when something changes forever and you wish you could have it back. It can feel like something or someone has been taken away and that your life doesn’t look or feel the same anymore.

Grief and loss often improve on its own with time. However, if it persists it might be time to seek support from one of our psychologists. We’re here to help, please contact us to find out more, or if you are an exisiting client, you can book an appointment online.

No referral is needed to book a session, but if you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you might be eligible for Medicare rebates.

Yep, life happens! Just give us at least 48 hours’ notice so we can offer that spot to someone else. Cancellations within 48 hours will incur a fee.

We don’t usually offer instalment plans, but if money’s tight, chat with us privately – we’re happy to see how we can find a solution.

The Medicare rebates are listed above, but if you on WorkCover, TAC or VOCAT the gap fees tend to be lower. With private insurance, we find they tend to be on-par with Medicare rebates. We can help you understand what’s covered and what your gap fee will be – just ask us when booking.

No worries! You can book on their behalf, just make sure you have their consent and relevant details to help our intake process.
